Green Tea Extract

Green Tea Extract is derived from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant and is highly concentrated in active compounds, particularly polyphenols known as catechins. The most notable of these is Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG), a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Green Tea Extract is widely used in skincare for its protective, soothing, and restorative properties.

Unlike raw green tea, the extract is refined and standardised to deliver consistent concentrations of active compounds. It is commonly used in formulations aimed at addressing acne, sensitivity, aging, and environmental stress. You’ll find it in serums, moisturisers, masks, cleansers, and sunscreens.

Benefits for Skin

  • Provides powerful antioxidant protection, helping neutralise free radicals and reduce oxidative stress.
  • Soothes irritated or inflamed skin, making it beneficial for conditions like acne, rosacea, and general sensitivity.
  • Helps regulate oil production, supporting clearer skin and fewer breakouts.
  • Improves skin tone and texture by calming redness and supporting healthy skin function.
  • Protects against UV damage when used alongside sunscreen, reducing the effects of photoaging.
  • May support collagen preservation and skin elasticity by inhibiting enzyme activity that breaks down structural proteins.

Safety & Toxicology

  • Widely considered safe and non-irritating for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin.
  • Non-comedogenic and generally well-tolerated in both rinse-off and leave-on products.
  • Naturally derived and often suitable for vegan and cruelty-free formulations.
  • No known toxicity or systemic effects when used topically in cosmetic concentrations.
  • Can be used alongside most active ingredients, including niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, retinoids, and vitamin C.
  • Stability may vary depending on formulation; it is best used in products stored in opaque, airtight packaging to preserve potency.
